El mago de Oz -Por fin en Madrid: el musical con Idaira

Uno de los corresponsales de Ozmanía me ha enviado esta foto del cartel que anuncia que el 1 de Mayo se estrenará un musical sobre El mago de Oz en el teatro del parque de atracciones. La elegida para Dorothy ha sido Idaira, una bella concursante canaria de Operación triunfo, y el director del musical es Miguel Tubía que ya había sido el encargado de la parte musical de la versión para teatro de Roman Stefanski en el teatro Sanpol

Idaira será la estrella protagonista del musical El Mago de Oz, encarnando el personaje de Dorita, que tendrá su estreno el próximo 1 de mayo a las 20:00h en la ciudad de Madrid.
La representación, que se realiza bajo el programa Musicales en el parque, tendrá lugar en el gran Auditorio del parque de atracciones, un recinto que cuenta con un escenario de 540 m2 y con capacidad para albergar a más de 2000 personas

Un bloguero llamado "el hombre tras la cortina" tiene una teoría sobre el legado de "El mago de Oz". Asegura que la influencia de este clásico cuento es tanta, que todos los días se encuentra alguna en su devenir cotididano. Oz-Stravaganza! (2008) "The Dreamer of Oz Comes Home".

Éste año se cumple el 30 aniversario del festival sobre Oz que se realiza en Chittenango cerca de Nueva York (lugar de nacimiento del autor de "el mago de Oz" L Frank Baum). El título que le han dado es te año es The Dreamer of Oz Comes Home (los soñadores de Oz regresan a casa) y será el´fin de semana que va del 30 de Mayo a el 1 de Junio.

Contará con la participación de el autor e historiador oziano John Fricke. Robert y Clare Baum abrira´n el festival a las tres de la tarde del sábado 31 de Mayo. También estarán los munchkins Jerry Maren, Margaret Pellegrini, Clarence Swensen, y Karl Slover.

Oz-Stravaganza! 2008 is May 30th - June 1st in Chittenango, NY, the birthplace of L. Frank Baum. This is the 30th anniversary of the festival making it the longest running in the world. The 2008 theme is "The Dreamer of Oz Comes Home".

Author and Oz historian John Fricke will emcee the weekend events. Robert and Clare Baum will be grand marshals of the parade which will be held Saturday May 31st at 3:00pm. To date munchkins Jerry Maren, Margaret Pellegrini, Clarence Swensen, and Karl Slover have committed to attend. They will present a program on receiving their well deserved star on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame"
There will be showings of "Dreamer of Oz" with a program by the Baums on their experiences with the movie. There is going to be a must see Oz music revue, a spaghetti dinner with the munchkins, Oz souvenirs and memorabilia, munchkin autographs, and a wide variety of entertainment. The parade offers bands, Ozzy floats, munchkins, and so much more.

Me first and the gimmie gimmies: Somewhere over the rainbow

El responsable del blog imusica.es ha demostrado poseer una buena dosis de buen gusto y le ha dedicado una sección exclusiva a recopilar versiones de Somewhere over the rainbow. Mi sorpresa mayúscula cuando vi aparecer a los Ramones haciendo los honores aunque al escuchar la canción he notado algo raro y finalmente lo he confirmado en los comentarios del youtube: son los Me first and the gimmie gimmies.

Aprovechando el post voy a incluir la versión de Barbra Streisand ,que según los responsables de el especial sobre canciones con oscar es una de las mejores que se han hecho. Nuestro tema preferido ocupa el número uno de la selección ¡Por supuesto! jajaja

Mayer, el presidente de la MGM , no quería esta «estúpida canción» de Harlod Arlen en su película 'El mago de Oz' , pero el productor Arthur Freed le convenció para que fuera un vehículo promocional para su niña prodigio Judy Garland. Aún así, en la versión de la película estaba 'amputada'. Existe la versión original, que Garland grabó el 7 de octubre del 38 y que sólo pudimos oír cuando apareció en CD la banda sonora a mediados de los años 80. Hollywood la eligió mejor canción para el cine de todos los tiempos. Incluso la Asociación de la Industria Fonográfica americana la tiene como número uno en su lista. el amigo Danielson del blog Bocadillos en su tinta -un cómic blog cualquiera ha tenido el detallazo de darme el soplo sobre este ninot valenciano Oz-ono caracterizado como los personajes del tebeo "El mago de Oz" de David Chauvel & Enrique Fernández. Esta noche puede que ya haya sido pasto del fuego.

Munchkins en Hollywood

Reportaje sobre el evento que tuvo lugar en Noviembre del año pasado cuando concedieron una estrella en el paseo de la Fama de Hollywood a los actores que dieron vida a los Munchkins en "El mago de Oz" (la primera estrella que se asigna a un colectivo). Siete de los nueve supervivientes acudieron para recibir tan alto galardón. ¡Por fin se hizo justicia! Todo ha sido posible gracias a la campaña que hizo Ted Bulthaup, el propietario del teatro Woodridge, Ill. en Chicago. Inicialmente la concesión de la estrella fue rechazada pero gracias a la insistencia y a la financiación de Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Hugh Hefner, Ted Turner, Mickey Rooney y otros, finalmente fue aceptada. Al día siguiente se proyecto la película en el Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. Para mí lo mejor del vídeo son las imágenes de la gente aplaudiendo a rabiar en las escenas en las que intervenían los munchkins galardonados (se me saltan las lágrimas de la emoción)

Los componentes vivos son Jerry Maren, Mickey Carroll, sleepyhead Margaret Pellegrini, main trumpeter Karl Slover, soldier Clarence Swensen and coroner Meinhardt Raabe, que certifica que la Bruja malvada del Oeste está muerta.

La leyenda que contaba que los actores eran unos borrachos y camorreros salvajes (hasta el punto que uno de ellos se suicidó y por error apareció en el film -leyenda urbana-) tuvo un "homenaje" en forma de película "Bajo el arcoiris" con Chave Chase en 1981 y reciéntemente Irvine Welsh con Babylon heights Una pieza, coescrita por Welsh junto a Dean Cavanagh, salpicada de adicciones diversas, suicidios y sexo duro. Ha llevado la leyenda a la realidad y nos escenifica lo que podría haber pasado detrás de las cámaras. La acción transcurre en un hotel de California con (enanos) actores munchkins: tres hombres y una mujer e incluyen adictos al opio y depredadores sexuales y todo lo que pasa por la cabeza de este Welsh, degenerado inglés amante de la heroína como dejó patente en sus dos trainspotting.

During an interview in the 60s, Judy Garland remarked "they were drunks". This lifestyle allegedly lead to the suicide of one actor. Babylon Heights, a new play by Dean Cavanagh and Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, takes this legend to be reality, and provides us with a dark and humorous account of what might have happened behind the scenes. The play is set in a California hotel room, where 4 actors with restricted growth, 3 men and a woman, are staying. Charles (John Fitzpatrick) is gradually corrupted by opium addict Bert (Dermot Magennis), gold-digger Philomena (Rachel Rath) and the sexually predatory Raymond (David Heap) leading to his ultimate demise.
